:Holy See, Hungary ratify modified accord
Catholic World News 12-Feb-14
On February 10, representatives of the Holy See and Hungary formally ratified modifications to the 1997 concordat between the two states.
Under the modifications, which were agreed to in October, the Hungarian government agreed to help subsidize Catholic teacher salaries and student housing expenses at Catholic institutions and to provide funding for “faith studies” materials on par with funding for secular “ethics studies” materials, according to a Budapest Beacon report.
The report added that Hungary will provide 2,500 scholarships to Catholic students and give the Church 1% of income tax revenue in compensation for properties confiscated by the former Communist regime.
